Itinerary

Day 1- Una River & Waterfalls Adventure – The Emerald Heart of Bosnia

Our journey begins in Bihać, a riverside town tucked between forested hills and the rushing emerald waters of the Una River. It’s here, surrounded by national park beauty, that we meet our guide and fellow travelers for the week.

Tomorrow, we’ll raft the Una River, following its crystal channels through canyons and past the famous Štrbački Buk waterfall, one of Europe’s most spectacular. The sound of the water is hypnotic — the air smells of pine and wild mint.

In the afternoons, there’s time to wander the cobblestone streets of Bihać, taste local trout grilled over wood coals, and perhaps sip rakija with new friends.

If you’re arriving early, you can stretch your legs with a walk to the old Fethija Mosque or take a short drive to Ostrovica Fortress, where sunset paints the valley gold.

This is Bosnia at its wildest — serene, untouched, and utterly captivating.

Day 2-Caves, Forests & Forgotten Villages – The Mystical Landscapes of Bosanski Petrovac

Our tour starts in Bosanski Petrovac, a quiet mountain town known for its clean air and deep-rooted rural traditions. Nestled between rolling green hills, it’s the perfect place to slow down and reconnect with nature.

We’ll hike through Una-Sana karst landscapes, where hidden caves and ancient oak forests tell stories older than memory. In the hamlet of Drinić, we’ll meet locals who still make kajmak (creamy dairy spread) the traditional way, and share a simple home-cooked lunch of corn bread, smoked cheese, and forest honey.

In the evenings, we’ll gather around the fire, perhaps with a glass of plum rakija, listening to folk tales and learning a few Bosnian words.

For those arriving early, an optional short hike to Kulen Vakuf offers breathtaking panoramas of the Una valley — a glimpse of tomorrow’s adventures.

Day 3-Hiking the Peaks of Krajina – From Grmeč Mountain to the Sana Valley

Our adventure begins in Sanski Most, a town framed by waterfalls and mountain ridges. From here, we’ll head deep into the Grmeč Mountain range, where shepherd trails weave through beech forests and alpine meadows alive with wildflowers.

Each day offers a different rhythm — morning hikes above the tree line, picnic lunches beside mountain springs, and quiet evenings in small eco-lodges, where homemade bread and nettle soup await.

One highlight is a visit to the Bliha Waterfall, a 72-metre cascade that thunders into a turquoise pool below. For those who enjoy photography, this is pure magic.

Our final day leads us down into the Sana River valley, where time seems to slow. You’ll leave this place lighter — soothed by mountain air, local warmth, and the beauty of simple living.

Day 4- Across Time and Tradition – The Ottoman Trails of Northwestern Bosnia

This cultural journey starts in Cazin, once an important Ottoman stronghold. Cobbled lanes lead to Ostrožac Castle, where fairy-tale turrets rise above the Una River. Inside its stone walls, we’ll explore art exhibitions and hear how sculptors still carve in open-air studios each summer.

Next, we’ll travel to Kulen Vakuf, a riverside town steeped in history, where wooden bridges and centuries-old mosques whisper of trade routes long forgotten. After a guided walk, we’ll share a riverside lunch — grilled peppers, stuffed grape leaves, and local white wine.

In the afternoon, a short drive takes us to the Rmanj Monastery, tucked deep in forested hills, where monks have lived in quiet devotion since the 15th century.

Evenings are for slow meals and conversation. Perhaps we’ll end our final night on the terrace, listening to the river’s murmur — a gentle farewell to Bosnia’s timeless north.
